Tragedy

I don't know if you all heard this but earlier today there was a shooting at an Elementary school located in Connecticut, USA. In this horrible event 27 people died including: 20 children (their ages ranged from 5 to 9), 6 teachers (one who was the killers own mother), and the sick fuck who killed them all (apparently he either killed himself or someone killed him). I sincerely hope things get better for the family of the victims. It was all very sad and horrible. May those children and staff rest in peace.

KPOP Review: Younique Unit "Maxstep"

SM has made yet another sub-unit. Although this one is a bit different from the other sub-units created by SM. First of all it focuses mostly on the dancing rather than the singing. Second, Hyundai helped SM in creating and sponsoring, I think, the group. Lastly it is made up from different SM groups: SHINee, Super Junior, EXO, and Girls Generation. They picked the best dancers of the groups and put them together to make a Ultimate Dancing Group! This was a genius idea. I also thought that it was really cool that they just had one girl, Hyoyeon. It made her look badass, except for the fact that she only appeared at the end of the MV.

For a group that focuses on dancing, I thought that the MV would have a lot of, you know, DANCING. It was mostly a bunch of fancy close-ups and angle views of the idols. Not what I was expecting. The music video was still pretty awesome. There is this part in the song when Kai screams the word right I don't know why but a always laugh when I hear him. Maybe because it's a little awkward coming from Kai, or it's just childish compared to the screamo bands I used to listen to (occasionally I still do) before I discovered kpop. One part I absolutely loved was Eunhyuk's rap in the middle of the song, if I miss that part I have to restart the song from the beginning. Hyoyeon's rap was pretty good to, but I didn't think the fast rapping fit well with the tone of the song at that moment. Still she did great and I LOVED the outfits she had. The guys outfits, however, were a bit weird. I didn't really like the whole pajama pants Henry was wearing or those boxing gloves that don't match, or Eunhyuk's hair, or Kai's outfit when he is sitting on all that gold. I gotta say I think that whole car theme is really cool. They had cars in their video, the choreography looks like they are driving a car, and they make car references in the lyrics. Pretty smart if you ask me.

The lyrics are kind of what I expected them to be. Just the singing about themselves.
"The whole world shakes shakes when seeing my exceptional image
My roar resounds into the silent atmosphere,
If I hesitated I can’t even escape it,
Destroyed, pushed away, only the best of the best survive"
This snippet of the lyrics pretty much explains the whole song itself don't you think? There are some other minor things in the lyrics. Like how it talks about how they gave you an opportunity, now it's your turn to seize it. The lyrics say that there is things you will need to overcome, but it will feel better once you do. Also, the reference to cars I mentioned before is this lyric right here:
"ROCK! LET ME TAKE A RIDE. SHIFT IT INTO DRIVE."
That is just about it for the lyrics. You know that's what I like about Kpop. Some songs can have deep meaningful lyrics that will take you paragraphs to explain, and then there are those that can be explained in a sentence or less.

I really don't know what to say about the English. It wasn't mispronounced or anything. It's just that there was English in the song that I didn't even hear until I read the lyrics and heard the song again. So I don't know if I should dock points off or what. Well since I didn't know there was more English then I thought there was I guess it does make sense that a rate it less than perfect.

I kind of already talked about the MV, but let me try to fish out the things I haven't already said about it. Oh yes regarding Hyoyeon. Her entrance was spectacular. It was really cool and I liked the dance they did when she blended in with the group. That still doesn't make up for the fact that she was only in there for one out of the three minute long music video. Something I don't quite understand was those scenes where Kai was sitting on all that golden stuff. What was that supposed to symbolize? Or does it really just mean nothing and they just did that to make him look cool? I don't really know, but oh well. The ending of the song was nicely wrapped by the glass shattering. Now that I think about it I didn't really talk much about Luhan. I think he's very cute. I think I should have mentioned Luhan a little more, but Luhan didn't really stand out in this MV.

MAMA Awards 2012

So what did you guys think of it? It was pretty awesome in my opinion.  All of the performances were just epic. I got to say that my favorite performance was Big Bang's. T.O.P in the pink suit was just too much for me, lol! What I found funny was how all the EXOtics and Babys were going all crazy trying to get either one to win Best Rookie of the Year, but in the end it was Busker Busker who won. Honestly I didn't know who to choose B.A.P or EXO I was fine with either. I am also a little confused. Some of the winners weren't even winning when the poll was still open. Did they not put the accurate results so that you would be surprised at the awards, or did they just not update the results frequently. Well, I don't know and the event is now over. Something that disappointed me was that U-KISS wasn't even nominated for anything. They have worked really hard for these past four years, yet still NOTHING. Hopefully next year they get a nomination, or at least perform at the event.

Here are the winners for each category if you have not yet seen them:

KPOP Review: Epik High: "Don't Hate Me"

It seems that Epik High is back after a much awaited comeback from the their fans. I don't know much about Epik High, actually I know nothing. This song, however, sparked my interest in them. They are really good. I especially loved the rapper's parts; he has a awesome voice. Anyway the song and music video was extremely well done and I'm glad that I finally have the chance to write a review on this song.

I loved how this song was arranged. From it's slow guitar to it's Jamaican sounding raps. I also liked at the beginning when it starts of with that guitar sound. I don't really know what to call that sound, but I like it. The song is fun, serious, and catchy, all the qualities a good song. You know now that I think about it, this song is kind of arranged to lift up your spirits. It starts off slow and depressing-ish. Then, the song turns upbeat to put you in a good mood.

The meaning behind the lyrics of the song are sort of already explained in the song title, "Don't Hate Me." From what I read in the English translation, the lyrics talk about how they hate him. I assume when they sing about him they mean Tablo. Anyway the song says that everybody hates him and that everyone is his anti-fan. They all blame him, and only see his mistakes. They judge him and bring him down. There is one person, however, that doesn't hate him, and that is you. His fans. Without you, Tablo says, he could just die. The fans are what keeps him and Epik High going. They don't want their fans to ever hate them, and then leave them. Epik High asks you to please love them. So will you?

As expected from YG the English in this song is flawless. Then again this song didn't really have any difficult phrases or words. Well maybe goalkeeper but that's all. They also don't have heavy accents when they sing so that's also a good thing to not have.

The music video was adorable, scary, symbolic, and funny all at once. If that was possible. When this video was released it was like an early Halloween. All those kids were adorable! Especially that little girl dressed up as Lady Gaga, so cute. I also liked that boy that was dressed up as GD in his "One of a Kind" MV. There was also so many kids in costumes from scary American movies. It was just cuteness overload. All of those little monsters did have to do with tying together a meaning to the song and the video. Those kids were showing that yes they may look like destructive monsters, but they really have a good side to them. As you can see all those monsters were doing was helping Epik High. All of those were hated villians from that nobody really takes the time to look and see their good side (if they have one). I thought it was a creative and fun way to express the message. Also, at the beginning when they are at the grocery store working and then a lady comes up to pay and Tablo just throws everything and drinks her soda, that was hilarious.  I just couldn't stop laughing.

KPOP Review: NU'EST "Sandy"

Rookie group NU'EST has come out with yet another music video. If they make one more than they will have a music video for all the songs in their Action mini album. I'm pretty sure all you Baekho fans would like that wouldn't you, since the only song that is left is Baekho's solo song. I gotta say that NU'EST is one of my favorite rookies this year so far, but then again I haven't seen all the rookies because there is a ton of them debuting each month. Seriously I can't keep up! What is worse is trying to learn the names of them. Especially EXO, they have twelve members in their freaking group. Also I hear that Pledis Entertainment, the same one that NU'EST is signed onto, is planning on debuting a seventeen member group, what a nightmare! Ok I was a little off topic there, but enough of my useless blabbing, Lets get to reviewing.

This song is one of the slower more ballad-y songs in the album. Apparently it is meant for the fans, the name Sandy is referring to the L.O./\.Es. How sweet of them, but I'm pretty sure that those whose names were actually Sandy enjoyed the song a little more. Personally I would say that this isn't my favorite song in the whole album, but it has a good enough sound to keep me listening until the end. The rapping was pretty good it fit with the song, yet it had a different sound so that it kept you interested. I also loved how Aron said Sandy, I don't know why I do.

The lyrics to the song are really really really simple. There is nothing confusing or hidden clues in the lyrics. The song is just about them singing how much they love a girl. They want be more than friends with the girl. Protecting her and making her happy is a must for them. They also express their jealousy when they see her with another guy. The song is pretty sweet and cute.

The English in the song isn't complicated or impressive, but it did fit with the song. It was both grammatically correct and there was no mispronunciations. There shouldn't be, since Aron knows perfect English. If there was then I would be extremely disappointed in Aron.

Before they filmed the video, I read somewhere that they were looking for NU'EST fans to be in the MV. This was announced even before they made a music video for "Not Over You", to which was a video that popped up in surprise. Everyone was expecting a "Sandy" MV not a music video for "Not Over You". Anyway, the video does have NU'EST fans as they announced. They are five lucky girls that got to go on a date with NU'EST. It was a cute video, but I think it was more of a video for fanservice rather than an actual meaningful video. The whole MV is what happens throughout the date. They go eat and then walk around while shopping. You know the typical things you do on a date.

Oh, I almost forgot. I also want to say happy birthday to Ren, from NU'EST. His birthday was yesterday but I was to busy to post anything.

KPOP Review: Block B "Nillili Mambo"

Block B has made their comeback and I am more than pleased. First I want to say that I wasn't even a fan of Block B until this song. I have heard of them, but I never actually took the time to look them up. Big mistake. This song is awesome and is currently stuck in my head.

I was hooked by this song on the first listen, which is quiet rare in my case as it usually takes two to four listens until I like the song. I admit that for about the first minute I thought the song had a weird sound, it was bizarre. After half way through the video I was into the song. By the time the video finished I instantly replayed it. From what I read this is their first comeback after a previous controversy, which I have briefly looked into. Although they had a problem, and there was probably some lingering anger from the people, they seemed confident and charismatic onstage. For that I give them props. Another thing I like is their image, they have the image that is really different in the Kpop scene and that provides variety.

The song talks about two things, I think. From what I got out of the English translation was that you have to have fun and enjoy the party. You know "bob your head to the music". Get frantic. Go Crazy. All that stuff. The other subject the song talks about is Block B. It says how they are stronger and better than the other guys. It doesn't really specify who they are talking to. I assume they are saying they are the best in music as in singing, dancing, and "feeling the rhythm". Well, those are my thoughts on the lyrics of the song.

The English portion of the song was alright. The beginning where Zico says that stuff in English was perfect. No mispronunciations, so good job. The thing that bothered me the most about the English was that some of it didn't fit the theme. For example "this song is groovy." No pirate says that, or at least from my knowledge of pirates. Also I'm pretty sure pirates don't say "rock and roll." Apart from the English not fitting perfectly with the theme, P.O didn't have the best pronunciation at the end. Maybe it's because his voice is so ruff, but I just couldn't get over that fact.

The theme they used for their MV was pretty clever. Pirates is an interesting and easy theme to work with. I liked the music video, and I have to say that my all time favorite part of the video is when Kyung is with the chicken. Although the MV confuses me a little. At the beginning you see Zico listening to Vietnamese music, while he is getting a massage. He then sees two men open a briefcase with two diamonds and that perks his interest. Then the two men go somewhere leaving the briefcase unprotected and able to be easily stole. Who in the world does that! I would also like to know where the heck could they have gone. This gives Zico a perfect chance to steal the diamonds. As he is escaping he sees Taeil and quickly runs to him to show him what he has. They try to open it by banging it on the ground and doing all kinds of other stuff. In the end they get it open by opening it from the top like a regular person should do. Something else that confuses me is that people in the video have guns, but they don't shoot them! The worst was when U-Kwon didn't have any bullets and he was cornered by the men, but instead of shooting U-Kwon who is defenseless they decide to beat him up WITH THE GUNS! My thoughts were,"Really? You have two perfectly good guns, have the guy cornered, and his revolver has no freakin' bullest. Yet you choose to beat him with the guns instead of shooting him and getting this whole dilemma done with." Apart from those non logical parts the ending was quite comical. The chipmunk voices were a good addition to make that scene funnier.

One more thing. Doesn't Jaehyo have a strong resemblance to U-KISS' Kiseop. I can't get over at how they look so much alike.

KPOP Review: J-MIN "Stand Up"

So... who finished watching the drama To the Beautiful You? I haven't. I have been to busy, but hopefully I get time to finish the drama. In my opinion this isn't the best Kdrama out there, but it is still entertaining and fun to watch. You can tell that they put much effort in the drama. The plot is just not that interesting or eventful. It's not like I am some kind of expert on this so I can't say much. Even though I didn't completely fall in love with the drama I did fall in love with the theme song.

I totally love "Stand Up", and I think it might be my favorite drama OST. What I found different in this song from other Kpop songs is that it doesn't have the same sound. From what I understand is that J-MIN is more of a Japanese artist rather than a Korean. It shows in the song. It has a more Jpop/rock sound to it, and it was quite different. The mini guitar solo was pretty cool too. Her song sounded more like she meant what she said, like she put honest feeling to the lyrics. I know that there are also various other artist that put just as much feeling as her, but with J-MIN you can notice it and I really like that about this song.

The lyrics to this song are no exception. The song has a powerful message that is not hard to figure out what she is trying to say. It all is about standing up and being yourself. The lyrics are also saying that you need to continue on, don't quit, and keep trying. The whole song is basically one big message, which I thought was really cool and inspiring. Her English is really good too. If I were to pick my favorite part of the lyrics it would be the first stanza, which is:
"Even if life is hard, don’t quit until the end
The sky will protect your side
Your footsteps are heavy, make some noise
You sink down and let out a sigh
But one more time, one more try"

The song has two music videos. One has clips of the drama mixed in with J-MIN singing with a band, and I heard that the guitarists is a member of TRAX. The other version is a band version where you see J-MIN and the band playing in different places. Personally, I prefer the band version. I don't think that this song was very fitting for the drama and I don't think the music video was either. To me the drama was more childish than anything, but the song is serious-ish. The band version was better and I thought it was pretty cool when they slowed down some parts to add affect. The drummer was cute too.

Anyway. what did you think of the drama. Did you like it or hate it? Who was the best actor or actress? For the drama I ship Jae Hee and Eun Gyeol, but I think I know for sure that they won't end to together. What about you? Also, what version of the MV did you like? Why?

KPOP Review: G-Dragon "Crayon"

As I said in my previous review on G-Dragon's "That XX" GD made a new music video for his recent solo album. The song itself isn't the best of the bunch, but I was totally hooked on the chorus. The music video was AMAZING. It had me laughing a lot, I loved everything about it from the ridiculously funny costumes to the colorful backgrounds and sets

The song has a pop sound that will get you on your feet and dancing. My favorite part of the entire song is the "Why so serious? GET YOUR CRAYON!", That was where I fell for the song. When I heard the song I cringed. Truthfully, I didn't like the rapping. It sounded to stereotypical to the rap sound here in the U.S. As the song went on I got into it, and then I heard the chorus. It raised my hopes for the song and eventually I got passed the fact that I didn't like the rapping. Now I actually enjoy the song as a whole. Except for the word swag. I absolutely loath that word, whoever made that word should be put down. I'm serious. I hear that word everywhere and it gets on my nerves, that and the word YOLO.

The lyrics for the song talk about how GD is so aweosme, according to him. Well at least that is what I understood from the translated lyrics. Honestly I didn't really get the lyrics. They confused me. I read through them a gazillion of times, but all I could get out of it is that GD is boasting about himself. Another thing I was able to understand is that in the chorus GD is telling you to just let loose, or "get your crayon". From what I have heard is that crayon is the words crazy and on combined together. So, basically it means to "get your crazy on" or get  crazy and have fun. That's all I was able to understand, but I may be completely wrong, so don't hesitate to correct me. In fact I want your feedback. I'm dying to know what the lyrics mean.

On to the work of art known as the music video. I LOVED it as I have already said. There was super hero references: Wonder Woman, Batman, and Wolverine. There was also Family Guy's Stewie and Brian on GD's shoes. I also noticed that they put children's tales in there like Pinocchio and Frankenstein. When I first saw GD in the tight black dress I thought it was actually him and wasn't at all surprised that he had a nice feminine body, but then I read that it wasn't him and I was relieved to know that GD doesn't have a better looking body than mine (or I hope so). Anybody else looked at the faces the guys around GD when he was on the couch? They, Were. Hilarious. The party scene was also pretty cool. The video itself was colorful, vibrant, and cheerful, which fits with the song title, "Crayon".

KPOP Review: U-KISS "Stop Girl"

Finally! I felt like I was going to die from the long wait, but U-KISS has finally made their comeback. I was so anxious to see how this song came out since they are missing AJ at the moment. I wasn't at all disappointed.Although I wasn't completely impressed with this comeback. Honestly, I had to listen to this song for approximately four times before it finally grew into me.

The song has nothing that is notably special. It did, however, have a more mature tone and feel to it. I loved that R&B sound they had in the song, very mature. When I heard the chorus, my initial expression was that it was too cheesy ("stop girl in the name of love" really?) and I wasn't expecting much. One thing I wish there was more of was the powerful singing Hoon (or should I say, Sailor Hoon) did at the beginning. The song was somewhat repetitive, but that's okay since most songs are like this nowadays. My favorite part in the song by far is when Dongho and Eli rap. I don't know why but I'm just captivated with Dongho's voice, it's something I don't think I will never find a proper explanation. But I was not at all captivated by Dongho's appearance, you know the part where he is wearing the hat and has he long hair to one side of his face. Eli's part was also epic, I loved the emphasis he put every time he said "cheok".

Lyrically the song is about a rocky relationship. They want to be together, but at the same time they get sick of each other. He wants her but then doesn't. They push and pull each other.

Personally, I was happy to see that the boys weren't going to be in a room again in this music video. I was really getting annoyed by the lack of variety they had on their set. I know it takes so much hard work to put those sets together, but I just don't like it when they don't change set. Take for example Super Junior, sure the boxes they dance in look cool but it's not different and it tends to be boring for me. Gladly that wasn't the case this time for U-KISS. The black and white version of the music video was a good way to boost up the maturity of it. Although, I prefer the color version myself.

Something that I totally loved was the fact that they had females incorporated into their dance. It was like the icing on the cake. The interaction with the opposite sex also helped them add a dance that speaks with the lyrics. As you see Kevin dancing with the woman, much to my dismay(he is mine!!! T-T I'm such a delusional fangirl), they come close but then separate and then come close again only to push themselves away from each other. It was a nice touch. Something I have noticed U-KISS does is their dances correspond with their lyrics. In Tick Tack they had the clock-like movements, in  Forbidden Love they had a slightly sexual dance, and in Believe they did movements that went along with the line "I do believe you"

The English in the song was perfect. No mispronunciation or weird jumble of English. I liked Soohyun's line when he said "and now my heart is depleted". So, for the English of the song there isn't much to say.

This time around the boys did a wonderful job. Right now my favorite album/ mini album is still The Special to Kiss Me, with Neverland coming in close second. Hopefully when AJ comes back they will have an explosive comeback.
